William Sellay is a partner in the Business Transactions Practice Group and chairs the firm's International Practice Group. He brings to business clients substantial experience on counseling companies in structuring and negotiating cross-border and domestic acquisitions, joint ventures, and licensing agreements, and on U.S. regulation of trade and business practices. A significant part of his practice centers on the special legal problems associated with production, marketing, and distribution of products and services, including the selection and termination of distribution channels, pricing, advertising and promotional programs, competition law compliance, intellectual property protection, and products liability prevention.
Mr. Sellay is immediate past chair of the Intellectual Property Committee of the American Bar Association's Business Law Section. He is a member of the International Bar Association and the Licensing Executives Society. He is also past chair of the Antitrust and Trade Regulation Section of the Connecticut Bar Association. He has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in the areas of Corporate Law and Mergers and Acquisitions Law since 2006 (Copyright 2010 by Woodward/White, Inc., Aiken, SC). He is a former member of the Advisory Board of the Clean Energy Fund, which invests in enterprises involved in the development, production, and use of energy from renewable sources. Mr. Sellay was appointed by the United States secretary of commerce to the Department of Commerce District Export Council. He is a member of the British American Business Council in the Midlands, UK, and the German American Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Sellay was interviewed and quoted in a cover article of Director magazine, a monthly publication for business leaders published in the UK by the Institute of Directors.
Mr. Sellay held engineering positions with both IBM and Honeywell Corporation before joining the firm.
