Dan has been listed in The Best Lawyers in America® in Insurance Law since 2006 (Copyright 2010 by Woodward/White, Inc., Aiken, SC) and in Connecticut's Super Lawyers® in the area of Insurance Coverage since 2007. In addition to insurance-related matters, Mr. Sullivan has represented clients in a broad spectrum of litigation, including representation of clients in business disputes, civil and criminal enforcement matters, and state and federal tax litigation. The cases he has worked on range from litigation and appeal of dissolution and shareholder derivative actions that established the scope of the business judgment rule in Connecticut to a murder case that served as a case study on the issue of time of death in Dr. Henry Lee's book Cracking Cases: The Science of Solving Crime.
Mr. Sullivan is a member of the state and federal bars in Connecticut and the federal bars of the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. Tax Court. He is a former vice chair of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section's Property Insurance Law Committee of the American Bar Association (ABA). He is also a member of the ABA's Litigation Section and the Defense Research Institute. From 1998 to 2008, he served as a member of the adjunct faculty at the Insurance Law Center at the University of Connecticut School of Law, where he developed and taught an LL.M.-level course on property insurance law.
Mr. Sullivan is a graduate of the The George Washington University's National Law Center, where he received his degree with high honors and was a member of the Order of the Coif.
