Carla Moynihan has focused on the disposition, acquisition, permitting, development, financing, and construction of commercial real estate for over 15 years. Ms. Moynihan represents institutions, developers, individual investors, public entities, and lenders in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions, from inception to completion, including negotiating and drafting letters of intent, offers, term sheets, purchase and sale agreements, land disposition agreements, development agreements, leases, easements, deeds, conservation restrictions, loan documents, and construction/design contracts.
A significant amount of her practice is also devoted to representing clients throughout the permitting and public approval process, at the federal, state, and local levels, on environmental, land use, and zoning issues for various uses. In particular, Ms. Moynihan has handled permitting reviews for development projects under the Massachusetts Environmental Protection Act, the Massachusetts Wetlands Act, Chapter 91, designated port areas, municipal harbor plans, the Massachusetts Historical Commission, and numerous local boards, including the City of Boston Board of Appeal, the Boston Redevelopment Authority, and various architectural/landmark commissions.
Ms. Moynihan currently serves as a member of both the Town of Belmont Planning Board and the Belmont Housing Trust. She is also the incoming cochair of the Boston Bar Association's Real Estate Section, past president on the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, a vice president on the Executive Committee for Boston University School of Law, and a member of the United Way's Real Estate and Building Industry Leadership Committee, the American Institute of Architects, the Boston Society of Architects, the Real Estate Bar Association, the Real Estate Finance Association, and the Women's Transportation Seminar. Ms. Moynihan is a frequent author and lecturer on land use development and real estate transactional matters.
Ms. Moynihan received her B.A. from Connecticut College in government and history and her J.D., with honors, in environmental law concentration from Boston University School of Law. In 2002, Boston University School of Law awarded her with the Young Lawyer's Chair Award, which is given annually to the alumnus who, within 10 years of graduation, has demonstrated outstanding performance in the profession. Ms. Moynihan was included on the 2009 Massachusetts and New England Super Lawyers lists in the area of Real Estate, Land Use/Zoning law (Super Lawyers is a registered trademark of Key Professional Media, Inc.).
