Eric Daniels served as Robinson & Cole's managing partner from 2000 to 2009 and currently serves as chair of the Products Liability and Subrogation Practice Group. He has extensive experience in the litigation and trial of products liability cases and business and commercial matters. With regard to products liability, Mr. Daniels serves as national products liability counsel for the largest global manufacturer of commercial and residential ice machines and related products. In addition, he has served as national products liability counsel for a manufacturer of commercial food preparation and refrigeration equipment, a distributor of consumer appliances, and a manufacturer of flooring systems. Finally, he has served as Connecticut products liability counsel for a manufacturer of lawn and gardening equipment. His experience includes the defense and mediation of multiple claims asserted against a leading manufacturer of stormwater retention systems, the defense of a leading manufacturer of electronic goods in a class action involving portable DVD players, the defense of a leading automobile manufacturer in a significant personal injury case involving product design and warning issues, and the defense of multiple claims of food contamination.
With regard to business and commercial matters, Mr. Daniels's experience includes the successful defense of a major corporation in an action involving allegations of breach of contract, fraud, and unfair trade practices in connection with a failed joint venture and the successful prosecution on behalf of a major developer in an action involving similar allegations in connection with a failed acquisition of an apartment building.
Mr. Daniels has served as a special master in Hartford Superior Court's Early Intervention Program since 1993. In that capacity, he has presided over settlement conferences in numerous cases involving questions of tort liability and business-related claims. This experience has greatly enhanced his ability to assess the reasonable settlement and verdict ranges of such cases. Also, Mr. Daniels served on the CPR Advisory Committee that developed the report on the "Systematic Early Settlement in Individual Product Disputes" in 1999 and on the board of the Connecticut Business & Industry Association.
Mr. Daniels is a graduate of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and the past chair of Robinson & Cole's litigation department.
