- Represents a leading telecommunications company on matters relating to preacquisition due diligence, development permitting, including prosecuting and defending appeals in federal and state courts, regulatory policy, and compliance for sites in Massachusetts and elsewhere.
- Drafted zoning article to allow proposed mixed-use development.

- Consult to a national trade association on state and local legislative initiatives relating to real estate development and report on issues of interest and potential impact to association membership. Have conducted more than 500 evaluations on such matters as legislative changes relating to "smart growth" initiatives, local comprehensive plans, impact fee studies, zoning codes and provisions, wetland and endangered species regulations, rental housing controls, and other subjects with impact on development rights.

| Mike Giaimo helps developers, businesses, institutions, and other property owners achieve their land use and development-related objectives. His practice involves land use, environmental, and real estate law, with a focus on permitting, regulatory compliance, transactions, and related litigation and administrative proceedings. He also advises a leading national trade association on land use policy matters.
Mr. Giaimo has appeared in front of permitting boards in well over 100 Massachusetts communities. His many years of service on numerous local boards, including as past chair of his local planning board and current chair of the zoning board of appeals, gives Mr. Giaimo an appreciation of the view from the other side of the table and has assisted him in successfully permitting many controversial projects.
Mr. Giaimo has made frequent speaking appearances before professional, business, and civic groups, nationally and locally, on zoning, constitutional issues (including takings, religious land use, and equal protection law), and other land use and environmental law subjects. He is a contributing author of the Massachusetts Zoning Manual, is coauthor of the chapter on zoning from the Massachusetts Basic Practice Manual, and has numerous other publications to his name. He has been qualified by the Massachusetts Superior Court as an expert witness on land use permitting.
Mr. Giaimo earned his B.A., with high honors, from Amherst College, a master's degree in city planning from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a J.D., with honors, from Harvard Law School. |
