Cathy Reuben concentrates her practice in the areas of labor and employment law and litigation.
 
  • Successfully shielded the director of content of an information technology website from his former employer's repeated efforts to obtain an injunction to prevent his employment with our client, another information technology website.


  • Represented health care-related company in federal whistleblowing claim brought by former employee, who claimed multi-million dollar damages. The matter was submitted to abitration, and resulted in a dismissal of all claims.


  • Provided manager training seminar for computer engineering firm covering issues of discrimination, employee privacy, discipline and termination, and other topics, including industry-specific interactive quizzes and hypotheticals.


  • Successfully negotiated settlement on behalf of food franchise that was audited by the federal Department of Labor and accused of child labor law violations.


  • Advised human service organization in the investigation of a hotly contested sexual harassment complaint, including preparation of appropriate documentation, investigation procedures, analysis of evidence, implementation of remedial action, and strategies for litigation avoidance.

Cathy Reuben provides counseling, training, and litigation defense for employers in a wide variety of labor and employment matters, including hiring, discipline, termination, discrimination, union organizing, sexual harassment, investigations, contracts, policies, employee violence, overtime, child labor, privacy, reasonable accommodation, layoffs, retaliation, leaves of absence, noncompetition agreements, and trade secret protection. Ms. Reuben has represented employers before the state and federal lower and appeals courts and various government agencies, including the EEOC, NLRB, MCAD, and the federal Department of Labor.

Ms. Reuben's diverse clients include both private and nonprofit businesses and professional organizations involved in education, food service, technology, health care, human service, manufacturing, law, insurance, finance/banking, pharmaceuticals, journalism, education, retail, and consulting.

Ms. Reuben is often quoted in the press on labor and employment law matters, including Lawyers Weekly, the Boston Globe, and the Today Show. She was recently ranked by Chambers USA as an "up and coming" employment lawyer. Ms. Reuben is a frequent speaker on labor and employment law issues. She has chaired seminars and served on panels for a variety of trade, bar, and continuing legal education associations, organizations, and schools.

Ms. Reuben is an active participant in the labor and employment law community. She serves as cochair of the Massachusetts Bar Association's Labor and Employment Law Section. She is involved in numerous other professional and civic activities and projects, including bar association task forces involved with youth outreach and transgender inclusion.

Ms. Reuben received her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A. from Amherst College, magna cum laude. She is an MCAD-certified trainer in discrimination, harassment, and reasonable accommodation.
