Accounting provides financial and administrative support to lawyers, employees, vendors, and clients. It is responsible for budget preparation, cash receipts, credit and collection, accounts payable, and expense reimbursement, as well as annual reporting to state and federal agencies.
Billing is responsible for time and billing as well as the opening of files for new clients and matters after checking for conflicts of interest. This department also provides extensive reports on lawyer and client activity.
Information Technology is one of the firm's busiest support areas. Each of our administrative departments and all lawyers and staff rely on IT to keep our integral systems up and running all of the time. Robinson & Cole recognizes that technology is a vital component of our business strategy. Demonstration of our technological capabilities has been instrumental in winning targeted clients, and our e-business initiatives have been well received as significant added-value services for existing clients.
Marketing provides strategic marketing, communications, and public relations services to attract and retain business clients for whom we can perform challenging and rewarding legal services. To enhance the firm's profile, we help lawyers strengthen existing client relationships, develop new business opportunities, and stay current with the evolving legal marketplace. We meet these objectives by planning marketing and public relations strategies, conducting market research and marketing training.
In addition, the Marketing Department uses an in-house graphics team to provide creative support for attorney, practice, and marketing-related initiatives including firm advertising campaigns, electronic communications, presentations, client activities, and intradepartmental needs. Our electronic graphics capabilities drive the firm's commitment to innovative technology through websites, business forums, e-mail communications, and client Extranets.
Administration provides many of the firm's day-to-day support services. These include reception, food service, facilities management, and purchasing.
Document Support provides production of specialized and lengthy legal documents. This department works very closely with our technology group to assist end users with complex applications.
The Education and Technical Training program allows our end users to learn and refresh skills as needed. We have a comprehensive new hire training program that quickly gets users acclimated to our systems and procedures. Our Center for Learning program offers ongoing classes on the Microsoft suite of products, contact management, electronic communications, administrative, and practice-specific applications. Tips and tricks sessions are also offered on a variety of topics. Through Robinson & Cole's Intranet, users are able to enroll themselves in Center for Learning courses that are either instructor-led or electronic. For our on-the-go end users, we have a one-on-one training program that allows them to make the best use of their time.
Human Resources is responsible for all aspects of compensation, including payroll administration and benefits. Additionally, this department manages all demographic information pertaining to the firm's employees, recruitment of nonlawyer personnel, and firm policy administration.
The Library comprises a diverse collection of both print and electronic resources to support the many needs of the firm. The Library staff organizes, manages, evaluates, and maintains the firm's information resources; provides instruction in using these resources; and conducts legal and nonlegal research. Together, our network of R&C libraries works to provide the most current, comprehensive, and efficient information available to our attorneys.
Office Services provides a wide variety of support for each office, including mail services, incoming and outgoing faxes, project copy center, and messenger services.
The Record Center is responsible for management of the firm's client and administrative electronic and paper files. This area is also responsible for the daily creation, storage and retrieval of active files as well as the off-site storage and retrieval of inactive files.
