Our Estate Planning and Probate Group assists clients with the preservation and disposition of significant personal and business assets including unique assets such as closely held stock and other business interests, residential, agricultural and commercial real estate, qualified and nonqualified retirement plan benefits, stock options and inherited property. We also advise clients on intergenerational family-owned business planning, and on a wide range of charitable giving techniques. We handle complex federal and state taxation matters involving income, estate, gift, succession, excise, and generation-skipping taxes.
In addition, we assist family members in the orderly settlement of decedents' estates, including the preparation and timely filing of state and federal tax returns and reports for the probate/surrogate's court. Further, we handle litigation in federal and state courts concerning issues relating to a variety of estate and trust matters, representing, at times, the estate or trust and, at other times, the interested heirs or family members.
We have published an Estate Planning Handbook which provides general information on estate planning. We also publish a quarterly bulletin entitled Planning Pointers.
