Professional Development

Each year Robinson & Cole sponsors a series of mandatory in-house seminars. While the program topics vary from year to year, these half-day sessions are conducted by one or more senior-level attorneys, nonlegal professionals or consultants retained for their expertise in the subject matter being presented.

To further reinforce the importance of professional development, each of Robinson & Cole's practices is responsible for monitoring and coordinating the continuing legal education of its members. Generally, associates continue the development of their professional skills through the combination of in-house seminars, practice group luncheons, and outside continuing legal education programs.

While we acknowledge the importance of informal mentoring relationships, Robinson & Cole adopted a formal mentoring program in 2003. Incoming first-year and lateral associates are matched with a senior- and junior-level mentor who commit themselves to provide guidance and insight into the practice of law and the firm culture of Robinson & Cole. All mentors and mentees participate in training focusing on effective mentoring skills. Each pair is given a list of expectations and suggestions to aid in the natural development of the mentoring relationship and, periodically, mentors and mentees are requested to evaluate the success of the mentoring relationship. Through individual mentoring, feedback, evaluations, and educational opportunities, Robinson & Cole strives to develop lawyers with superior professional judgment and analytical and communication skills.
