R&C Volunteers at Greater Boston Food Bank As part of the Firm's 160th anniversary celebration, members of R&C's Boston office volunteered at Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB), packing, sorting and loading product for shipment. R&C volunteers participated in a "contest" to see who could package the most product, going head-to-head against 18 other major Boston area companies. The GBFB is the largest food bank in New England, distributing over 24 million pounds of food annually to various hunger relief agencies. GBFB saves an estimated $600,000 in labor costs annually due to volunteer efforts. Click here for photo
"e-Pals" Program with Monument High School in South Boston Robinson & Cole's Boston office has an ongoing partnership with Monument High School in South Boston. Lawyers and staff participate in a wide variety of programs to benefit the students, including an "e-Pals" program, mock trial, career fairs, and classroom events. The e-Pals program matches students in a 9th grade honors English class with R&C lawyers and staff. Everyone in the program reads Of Mice and Men and Romeo & Juliet then each pair of e-Pals exchanges emails about the books, discussing the topics covered in the classroom. Both students and R&C participants enjoy the program, and the classroom teacher reported that it increased the students' enthusiasm for writing, helped students become more comfortable expressing their thoughts about the book, and raised the students' awareness that there is often more than one legitimate point of view on an issue.
Robinson & Cole won two awards from the New England Chapter of the Legal Marketing Association for its participation in the e-Pal Program. Competing against all other law firms in New England, R&C received a first place Community Relations award for e-Pals and an overall Best in Show award for this program.
Mock Trial is part of educational training for Boston High School Students
Robinson & Cole attorneys coach Boston high school students from Monument High School throughout the year on many aspects of getting the most out of a higher education and developing career skills. One of the highlights for students and our lawyers is the Mock Trial where everyone enters the court room, in this case at Suffolk Law School.
