1.27.12 Alaine C. Doolan returns to Robinson & Cole LLP as a senior associate in the firm’s Business Section, primarily practicing in the areas of intellectual property, technology law, and brand management. Ms. Doolan worked at the firm as a trademark analyst while attending law school and as an associate before venturing out to explore other platforms, including in-house positions where she managed more than 4,000 worldwide trademark portfolios for two large consumer products companies. more details

12.09.11 Through teamwork, collaboration, and many laughs the partners of Robinson & Cole built bicycles for the Boys & Girls Club of Newport at the annual partners retreat. Teams had to correctly answer trivia questions to secure the necessary parts and tools for their bike and then race to assemble the bikes before taking them on a test ride around an indoor obstacle course and marketing them to their colleagues. After the teams completed the project, 17 children enrolled in the Boys & Girls Club of Newport went home with new, road-worthy bikes and helmets. more details

11.14.11 Robinson & Cole’s Hartford, Stamford, Boston, and New York offices joined forces as team “Legally Pink” and raised funds throughout October for the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research and programs. Staff members organized teams of staff, lawyers, family, and friends who participated in the “Making Strides for Breast Cancer” walks. Collectively, the teams raised nearly $12,500 through pizza parties, baked goods and candy sales, event T-shirts sales, a raffle, a top chef cooking competition, and straight donations. more details

10.28.11 The Women’s Initiative of Robinson & Cole’s Boston Office held its Annual Women’s Fall Networking Event at Boston’s Union Club on October 18, 2011. Author and award-winning Boston Globe columnist and reporter Bella English led the discussion as the Divas Uncorked told the story of how the group initially came together over a love of wine and how that transformed into a thriving enterprise. Thanks to the generous support of the more than 60 professional women attending the event, including business owners, in-house counsel, bankers, private equity directors, accountants, brokers, and professional service providers, over $1,200 was raised for the Divas charity of choice, the Island Food Pantry of Martha’s Vineyard, whose mission is to help year-round island residents in need. more details

9.22.10 Because of the pro bono work of two Robinson & Cole attorneys, a 27-year-old man, who was detained and tortured for his human rights work in his home country of Uganda, has been granted asylum in the United States and can now live safely without fear of torture or death upon deportation to Uganda.

Partner James B. Zuckernik and first-year associate Katherine S. Kayatta, both from the firm’s Boston office, represented Samuel Nsubuga of Kampala, Uganda, who was referred to Robinson & Cole by the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project in Boston, an organization devoted to advocating for individuals in need of legal counsel. The case presented unique challenges. To prevail, the attorneys had to establish the well-founded fear of further persecution or death should Nsubuga return to Uganda. more details
