Tax Attorney

Robinson+Cole, an AmLaw 200 firm, seeks a senior associate or counsel level attorney to join the Tax + Exempt Organizations group, located in any of its East Coast offices.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of seven years’ experience with the following:

  • Counseling a variety of exempt organizations, both private foundations and public charities, with respect to structure and formation, charitable gift planning, transactional matters, and unrelated business taxable income strategy and planning.
  • Tax structuring and the formation of business entities, registration with tax and other regulatory agencies, and the drafting and revising of operating agreements and other governance documents.
  • Serving as corporate counsel to nonprofit organization clients and representing exempt organization clients in matters before the Office of the Attorney General, the Internal Revenue Service, the Department of Revenue Services, the Probate Courts, and other authorities.
  • Advising on structure and tax-related issues associated with venture philanthropy collaborations, donor-advised funds, private foundations, and corporations.

Strong academic credentials, excellent writing and analytical skills, and large-firm or equivalent experience are required.  All R+C attorneys must be admitted in the state of their primary office location.

New York Applicants: Please note that the target base salary range for this position for New York based candidates is $235,000 to $245,000. Actual base salary within that range will be determined by several components including but not limited to the individual's class year, years of experience, skills, qualifications, and office location.

Labor and Employment Associate 

Robinson+Cole, an Am Law 200 firm ranked #17 in Vault’s “2024 Best Law Firms to Work For,” seeks an associate with four to eight years of employment and/or labor law experience to join its Hartford or Stamford office. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated attorney who wants to be an integral part of a team and build a sophisticated practice focused on counseling, compliance, workplace investigations, training, litigation, representation before state and federal agencies, board advisory work, and labor matters. The successful candidate will work with lawyers regularly recognized by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business, Connecticut Super Lawyers, and The Best Lawyers in America©. Candidates must have excellent legal research, analytical, and writing skills; knowledge and understanding of Connecticut state and federal court procedural and evidentiary rules; proven project management skills; demonstrated ability to work directly with clients to provide quality representation and service; and be able to supervise junior associates and staff.

Ideal Qualifications

  • Experience providing employment counseling to business leaders, conducting employment diligence, and advising on employment aspects of corporate transactions.
  • Experience defending employment cases with partner oversight including investigating claims, taking and defending depositions, engaging in the discovery process, preparing and arguing discovery, dispositive, and other motions in state and federal court, and representing clients in administrative proceedings.
  • Proficiency in reviewing, advising on, and drafting multi-state workplace policies, employee handbooks, and related projects.
  • Ability to manage multiple litigation and client projects efficiently and effectively including effective management of priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong academic credentials and excellent writing, research, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in building a labor and employment practice.

Offering legal services across varying industries and from startups to the Fortune 500, our Labor & Employment team is known for stable, long-lasting client relationships, high-quality legal work, in-person collaboration, and commitment to excellent training. Workplace investigation experience is a plus. Preferred candidates will possess strong academic credentials from a nationally recognized law school and be admitted in multiple jurisdictions. Admission to the Connecticut bar is required.
