Biography
Derek Valentine is a land use analyst with a decade of experience in land use, transportation, and environmental planning. He is nationally accredited as a professional planner from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
Land Use Applications
Derek supports Robinson+Cole’s Real Estate + Development Group by providing zoning analysis and feasibility reports for a multitude of land use proposals. He assists clients with due diligence in connection with research for the acquisition and development of property, including comprehensive review of municipal zoning and subdivision regulations and local historic district guidelines. Derek combines his education and experience working in the public sector to prepare applications and submissions to municipal permit granting authorities, including planning boards, zoning boards of appeal and landmark/historic districts commissions.
Research and Analysis
Derek assists with a range of clients, including providing research for a national wireless communications carrier navigating the local permitting processes for new wireless communications facilities. He also regularly provides analysis to a national real estate trade association on state and local land use and real estate-related initiatives and trends across the country. Derek is working with a major world-wide retailer to prepare zoning reviews as part of their due diligence process in acquiring new sites throughout the New England Region.
Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Derek worked in a variety of roles, including as a town planner in western Connecticut, a land use planner in a Boston suburb, and as a transportation planner for a state agency.
