Biography
Jason DePatie focuses his practice on representing insurers in matters involving property insurance coverage, liability insurance coverage, and bad faith. He is a member of the firm’s Insurance + Reinsurance Group.
Property Insurance Coverage
Jason represents insurers in claims, disputes, and litigation related to property insurance coverage, including coverage under both commercial and homeowners insurance policies. He also advises insurance carriers on coverage obligations.
Liability Insurance Coverage and Defense
Jason assists insurers and insured parties in matters covered by liability insurance. He handles claims and disputes related to personal injury, premises, and products liability coverage; professional liability for administrators, medical, and educational professionals; automobile negligence; and construction defects, for example.
Bad Faith Litigation
Jason represents insurers when insured parties allege bad faith practices in relation to coverage denials or handling of claims. He assists insurers in disputes and litigation which make bad faith claims under legislation such as the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act (CUTPA) and Connecticut Unfair Insurance Practices Act (CUIPA).
Pro Bono
Through the firm’s Domestic Violence Restraining Order Program, Jason provides free legal services to victims of family violence by helping them obtain restraining orders and navigate the family court system.
Prior to joining the firm, he worked for the Emory International Humanitarian Law Clinic, where he drafted memoranda addressing issues in international humanitarian law for United States military defense counsel. He also evaluated legislative proposals affecting Georgia’s child welfare system for the Barton Child Law & Policy Center. Jason has extensive experience writing reports and policy briefs for the general assemblies of Connecticut, Vermont, and Georgia. For the Institute for Municipal and Regional Policy, he served as a liaison to legislative staff and government agencies and helped execute the institute’s legislative goals.
