    Biography

    Jessica L. Rothman is an accomplished construction attorney with 20+ years representing all types of stakeholders in a variety of construction projects. Jessica is experienced in drafting and negotiating contracts, providing general counsel and project management services, risk management and dispute resolution counsel (mediation, arbitration and litigation). A member of the firm’s Construction Group, Jessica always strives for complete and effective resolutions of matters at hand.

    Contract Negotiations

    Jessica’s practice is focused on the representation of project owners, general contractors and construction managers, architects, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers and, at times, adjoining property owners in transactions and litigation relating to projects ranging from new buildings to commercial interiors and high-end residential construction. She is skilled at drafting and negotiating contracts from preconstruction through completion and close-out, handling every part of the process and advising with respect to terminations and claims, including liens.

    Legal Advice, Strategy, & Litigation Plans

    Jessica has significant experience providing legal advice on contracting strategies and project-related financial, schedule, and quality issues. She has developed litigation plans and resolution strategy, including liability analysis and estimated valuation. Jessica has also served as outside counsel to a NYC-based construction firm that offers a range of contracting and pre-construction services for high-rise residential, commercial, and hospitality, core and shell, corporate interiors, health care, as well as educational and cultural institutions.

    Jessica’s knowledge is often sought out by project owners, contractors, architects, and engineers in negotiating contracts for construction and design projects. Jessica has been named to the New York Super Lawyers list from 2022-2023. Before joining Robinson+Cole, Jessica was a Partner at a NYC-based firm.

      • Represented worldwide owner and operator of self-storage facilities in zoning application process and breach of contract litigation in connection with the purchase and development of a new facility on Long Island.*

      • Represented sponsor of condominium and architect in litigation by owners for alleged defective design and construction of base buildings and common areas, and improperly tabulating the operating budget for the condominium.*

      • Represented and represents owners and contractors in litigation involving claims under the mechanic’s lien laws.*

      • Represented an architectural firm in defending claims by school district for construction delays occasioned by failure to coordinate trade contractors.*

      • Represented engineering firm in connection with claims made by adjacent property owners and project site owners claiming loss of use of their respective properties due to alleged design and construction errors.*

      • Represented and represents architectural firms in litigation by owners for alleged failures to comply with applicable zoning provisions and cost estimates.*

      • *Attorney Rothman was counsel in these representative transactions prior to joining Robinson+Cole.
