    Biography

    Raymond Gauvreau’s practice primarily involves the representation of insurers in complex coverage disputes and litigation across various lines. Ray also provides coverage advice to clients. He has experience in litigation matters across federal and state courts, from the pre-suit stage up to mediation or trial. Ray understands that no two cases are alike and does all he can to identify a client’s business objectives in order to secure the best possible outcome. He is a member of the firm’s Insurance + Reinsurance Group.

    In addition to his coverage work, Ray has experience in insurance defense, products liability, anti-SLAPP litigation, and appeals, and has provided guidance on a number of education and employment law matters. Before entering private practice, Ray served as a legal research law clerk for the judges of the Connecticut Superior Court, where he was based in the Judicial District of Litchfield at Torrington.

        Stacking is the cumulation of coverages for multiple vehicles or policies to increase benefits available for recover. Exclusions, statutory limitations, and setoff rights can affect the extent to which stacking will be effective, sometimes befuddling counsel and courts alike. The CLE program demonstrated the manner and method of stacking uninsured and underinsured motorist (UI/UIM) coverage. The panel offered an overview of how UI/UIM works, eligibility, intra- and inter-policy stacking, limits on stacking from exclusions and waivers, and more. The presentation was designed to help counsel identify available and overlooked sources of recovery and discuss strategies for preventing misapplication of stacking rules.
