Clinical Training Arrangements

In recent years, health care staffing challenges have increasingly prompted hospitals and health care systems to collaborate with local colleges and universities to establish new training opportunities in order to support workforce development and retention and to  strengthen existing student training affiliations to support recruitment. In addition, hospitals and health care systems have sought to establish internal training programs and opportunities for the advancement of existing staff.

Our Services

Robinson+Cole’s health care attorneys understand that clinical staffing is the backbone of providing quality health care services. We have considerable experience guiding hospitals and health care systems in establishing independent training programs and collaborative and innovative arrangements with higher education institutions, to help realize staffing objectives in support of high-quality patient care.

We have advised health care clients on regulatory and transactional matters in the following areas:

  • Establishing a master affiliation agreement with a university, covering student training and practicums at the hospital or health care system, uptraining and advancement of clinical staff through online and campus programs, and collaborative executive and physician leadership training programs;
  • Counseling on establishing an internal certified nursing assistant training program at a health care system, in compliance with federal and state laws, and establishing agreements with affiliates to provide dedicated practicum opportunities;
  • Counseling a health care system regarding the joint establishment of a nurse training program for the existing nursing staff of the system, including the employment- and benefit-related implications; and
  • Establishing training services agreements to support clinical staff participation in training programs offered through various educational programs and institutions.
