Careers at R+C

Law Students

Support System  •  Training  •  Partner Interaction  •  Hands-On Experience  •  Social Events + Networking

Law student recruiting is a cornerstone of R+C hiring. Each year, we hire summer associates in our East Coast offices with the hope that you will become part of the future of our firm. Summer class sizes are small to allow for a meaningful and dynamic summer program experience.

From day one, you will be warmly welcomed and immersed in our collaborative firm culture, gaining practical legal experience and developing meaningful relationships by working closely with our outstanding attorneys and business professionals, including partners and practice group leaders.

What Makes the R+C Summer Program Special?

Support System

R+C positions you for a successful summer program by providing the support you need to learn and grow early in your career. Your support system will include:

  • Your assigned associate mentor
  • Your assigned partner mentor
  • Dedicated Summer Work Assignment Coordinators
  • Our accessible Hiring Partner
  • Our experienced Legal Recruiting team

You will also build your own support system organically. Attorneys across all levels are excited to work with you and provide guidance throughout the summer program and during law school.

Hands-On Experience

Summer associates at R+C do real, meaningful work. You will receive assignments that span our multi-faceted practice areas and will work with a variety of attorneys during your time with us.

  • We do not have a structured rotation program: you are an active participant in a dynamic work distribution process. Our Work Assignment Coordinators provide some of your assignments, but you are also encouraged to reach out to attorneys directly to request work in practice areas where you have an existing or burgeoning interest.
  • This process, and the autonomy it offers, allows you to begin shaping your legal career from the moment you begin working at our firm.
  • In addition to gaining varied legal experience through your formal work assignments, you will also have opportunities to observe our attorneys in action at hearings, depositions, closings and client meetings through our firm’s Enrichment Opportunities program.

Social Events + Networking

R+C values connection and wants to get to know you and your fellow summer associates on an individual level. We likewise want you to get to know us on a more personal level.

  • We plan a variety of fun social events each summer to foster these connections and allow you to experience our firm’s culture and camaraderie in action.
  • Summer associate events are planned in many of our locations, providing you with an opportunity to visit other offices and meet more attorneys and business professionals.
  • Past summer program events have included:
    • Pre-program Welcome Dinner for all summer associates and legal interns
    • Welcome Reception to introduce you to many members of the firm
    • Dinner with Managing Committee and Hiring Committee members
    • Hartford Yard Goats game viewed from the Dugout Suite
    • Additional rotating summer associate events, including ping pong, darts and live theater
    • Firm events including office-specific summer outings, community service volunteer opportunities, our annual R+C awards presentation and our in-house mock trial

By the Numbers

Our summer class is comprised primarily of 2L law students, with a few 1L students hired through our diversity and client partnership programs. We seek summer associates and legal interns for our Hartford, CT; Stamford, CT; Boston, MA; New York, New York; and Providence, RI offices. We are pleased to share that we achieved a 100% offer acceptance rate from our recent 2L summer associate cohort. These students will return to the firm as full-time associates following graduation.

1L Hiring

Each year, R+C provides opportunities to first-year law students in our Hartford, CT and Providence, RI offices. In collaboration with the University of Connecticut School of Law’s Early Career Initiative (ECI), The Lawyers’ Collaborative for Diversity (LCD), and our own client partnership programs, we hire 1L law students to participate in our summer program and gain experience in a law firm setting. A number of 1L students recruited through these programs have received return offers for their 2L summer and later accepted offers for Associate positions after law school graduation.
