Lauren A. Elia is an associate in Robinson+Cole’s Insurance + Reinsurance Group, where she represents domestic and international insurance carriers in complex coverage disputes and related litigation. Her practice focuses on commercial general liability, commercial property, and financial lines insurance, and includes matters pending in both state and federal courts.

Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Lauren worked for a major domestic insurer as a claims examiner responsible for managing complex bodily injury and toxic tort claims, including asbestos, lead paint, and other long‑tail exposures. In that role, she conducted coverage analyses, worked closely with outside defense counsel, participated in mediations and settlement conferences, and monitored trial proceedings. This claims‑side experience informs her practical, litigation‑focused approach to advising insurer clients.

Lauren earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, where she served as Managing Editor of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal. During law school, she also served as a research assistant to Professor Tom Baker, founder of Insurance Law Analytics, where she tracked and analyzed insurance coverage litigation trends in federal and state courts, including nationwide developments arising from COVID‑19‑related claims. She also holds an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance.
