Robinson+Cole recently celebrated its 180th anniversary with an in-person and virtual celebration throughout all of its 12 offices. The program featured commemorative remarks from Managing Partner, Rhonda Tobin, on the firm’s legacy, its people, and a special reading of the last practicing Robinson or Cole, Barclay Robinson Jr.’s, declaration from 1999 highlighting R+C’s extensive history of innovation, adaptability, and commitment to its people.

Robinson+Cole began on December 6, 1845, when Lucius F. Robinson founded a one-lawyer office on State Street in Hartford, Connecticut, during a time when city streets were unpaved, and horses and buggies dotted the American landscape. Today, the firm includes over 275 lawyers in 12 offices across nine states with many strong nationally recognized practices.

“Over the decades, we’ve had the privilege of representing remarkable individuals and organizations, from literary giants like Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe to leaders who shaped industries and communities,” said Rhonda. “Their stories remind us that our work has always been about more than law—it’s about impact, trust, and relationships that stand the test of time. Our longevity is a testament to the people and the culture we’ve built together.”
