Hunter M. Sutterfield represents regional and national institutional lenders in multifamily real estate transactions. He focuses on community development through affordable housing and supportive services that improve the lives of low-income participants. Hunter advises private lenders and governmental and non-profit entities on affordable housing policies and programs that leverage federal and state Low Income Housing Tax Credits, state and local funding, tax-exempt bond financing, and equity investment.

Prior to joining our firm, Hunter was an Assistant City Attorney in Austin, Texas. He represented the Austin Housing Finance Corporation in affordable housing finance transactions, coordinating with developers, lenders, and outside counsel on loan documentation, closing logistics, and compliance requirements. He drafted and negotiated development-related contracts and advised Housing & Planning Department staff on real estate, statutory, and programmatic compliance matters related to funding sources. This agency-side experience gives Hunter a unique perspective and informs his work for private lenders and governmental and non-profit entities.

Hunter also served as Assistant General Counsel in the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs, where he played a vital role in multifamily development projects by drafting consistent contracts for HOME-ARP and NHTF funds. Before working for the state, Hunter worked as an Equal Opportunity Specialist for the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development, where he investigated Title VIII complaints and potential Fair Housing Act violations.

Hunter is committed to giving back to his community and performing pro bono work. While in law school, he volunteered at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lubbock.
