Robinson+Cole announced John L. Hunt has joined the firm as a partner in its Construction Law group, based in the New York office. Hunt’s arrival marks the second partner to join the group in recent weeks, reinforcing the firm’s strategic growth in key markets and its commitment to delivering sophisticated counsel on complex construction matters.

Hunt is an experienced design and construction lawyer with more than 30 years of experience guiding clients through the implementation of effective legal and risk mitigation strategies on complex urban redevelopment projects. His practice spans contract drafting and negotiation, transactional and claims counseling, leveraging insurance products, and advising on legal issues related to large public and private capital projects.

“We’re thrilled to have John joining our team. His experience with high-profile development projects and his ability to navigate legal and risk management challenges make him an incredibly valuable addition to our practice group,” said Martin A. Onorato, Chair of Robinson+Cole’s Construction Law group. “His arrival enhances our collective ability to support clients navigating complex construction matters.”

Hunt counsels developers, owners, institutions, construction managers, and design professionals on matters involving design and construction, insurance, risk management, utilities, and public agencies. He has worked on some of New York’s most significant ground-up real estate development projects and operating properties across sectors including sports and entertainment, commercial office, retail, residential, industrial, healthcare, and infrastructure. His prior roles include serving as General Counsel for a leading New York City construction manager and as Senior Vice President, Counsel and Risk Manager for a major owner/developer.

“I’m excited to join Robinson+Cole’s highly regarded Construction Law group,” said Hunt. “The firm’s collaborative culture and commitment to client service align perfectly with my approach to practice. I look forward to contributing to the continued success of the team and our clients.”

Hunt co-authored the chapter on payment and performance bonds in the ABA Forum on Construction Law’s book Construction Insurance: A Guide for Attorneys and Other Professionals. He also has a strong commitment to pro bono service, including two decades of representation for the Madison Square Park Conservancy.

Virginia K. Trunkes recently rejoined Robinson+Cole, also as a Construction Law partner in the firm’s New York office. Trunkes brings more than two decades of experience representing clients in complex construction and real estate litigation. Her practice focuses on advising general contractors, developers, and institutional clients in disputes involving payment claims, contract interpretation, project delays, and construction defects. Prior to rejoining Robinson+Cole, she was in-house at OHLA USA, a leading builder of complex public infrastructure and vertical construction projects, where she was Senior National Construction Counsel.

In addition to Hunt and Trunkes, Michael E. Holzapfel joined Robinson+Cole’s New York office as counsel in the firm’s Managed Care + ERISA Litigation group. Holzapfel is an ERISA litigator with more than 20 years of experience representing a wide range of clients in state and federal courts across the country. He has extensive experience representing employers, insurers, third-party administrators, and fiduciaries in ERISA benefits and statutory lawsuits, both on a single-plaintiff and class action basis.
