Robinson+Cole has relocated its Boston office to 53 State Street, a premier 40-story tower in the heart of downtown. The relocation of the office, home to a dynamic team of lawyers and business professionals, was celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and reception for employees and special guests on December 17, 2025.

The move marks a significant milestone for the firm, which had been located at One Boston Place for over 30 years, where it occupied a total of 25,000 square feet across the 25th floor and part of the 26th floor. Robinson+Cole’s new 10-year lease at 53 State Street expands the firm’s footprint to 28,000 square feet on the building’s 32nd floor, offering sweeping views of Boston Harbor, the Charles River, Cambridge, and the city skyline through contemporary glass office fronts that promote light equity and create a healthier, energizing environment. The firm’s Design Committee collaborated with Studio Alliance to deliver a bold, sophisticated, and innovative workspace.

“We’re thrilled to bring our team to 53 State. Boston is a city known for creativity, innovation and excellence, and we designed this space to reflect and inspire the same within our people and our firm,” said J. Michael Wirvin, partner in charge of Robinson+Cole’s Boston office. “We wanted to create an environment that not only reflects Robinson+Cole’s values of collaboration, civility, and inclusion, but also the sophistication of our people and our clients. This relocation marks an exciting new chapter for our firm in the city, and we’re already seeing the benefits of a workspace that encourages engagement, well-being, and innovation.”

Taking cues from the industry’s latest design trends, including those reflected in the firm’s Hartford office, which relocated in August 2024, Robinson+Cole’s Boston location includes workspaces that facilitate seamless remote and on-site collaboration and team building while also promoting focused work. Workspaces include sit-to-stand desks to promote well-being, sound masking throughout open areas for privacy considerations, and “busylight” technology, indicating whether a colleague is available to connect based on the selected light color displaying from their space. Conference rooms, huddle spaces, and day offices support the firm’s hybrid work model, featuring cutting-edge technology such as digital name plates that change depending on the office occupants for that day, and a mobile app-based digital room reservation system. The office also features a large café equipped with fridges stocked with beverages, convenient bottle fillers, high-end coffee machines and a variety of seating options. Robinson+Cole officially began operating from its new Boston location on October 27, 2025.

The site of 53 State Street has long been a prominent Boston landmark. Originally home to the historic Bunch of Grapes Tavern, it later became the Boston Stock Exchange Building (1889–1891). While the original structure was demolished to make way for the current 40-story Exchange Place skyscraper in the 1980s, a portion of its facade and iconic Grand Staircase were preserved and incorporated into what is now a striking, seven-story glass-enclosed atrium. The building features 24/7 concierge and security, and convenient parking with assigned spaces and guest QR code access. The location offers direct access to MBTA Orange and Blue Line platforms, with Red and Green Lines, North and South Station, and commuter boat lines all within walking distance. Employees can also enjoy building amenities, such as a newly updated fitness center, tenant lounge, and rooftop terrace.
