CISA Issues Advisory on Chinese State-Sponsored Actors Targeting Critical Infrastructure
On August 27, 2025, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a Cybersecurity Advisory entitled “Countering Chinese State-Sponsored Actors Compromise of Networks Worldwide to Feed Global Espionage System.” The Advisory warns that People’s Republic of China (PRC) sponsored advanced persistent threat (APT) actors “are targeting networks globally, including, but not limited to, telecommunications, government, transportation, lodging, and military infrastructure networks. While these actors focus on large backbone routers of major telecommunications providers, as well as provider edge (PE) and customer edge (CE) routers, they also leverage compromised devices and trusted connections to pivot into other networks.” Read more
DOJ Seizes $2.8M in Cryptocurrency + Cash From Zeppelin Operator
On August 14, 2025, the Department of Justice announced that it unsealed six warrants “authorizing the seizure of over $2.8 million in cryptocurrency, $70,000 in cash, and a luxury vehicle.” According to the press release, “all of the cryptocurrency was seized from a cryptocurrency wallet controlled by Ianis Aleksandrovich Antropenko, who is charged by indictment in the Northern District of Texas for conspiring to commit computer fraud and abuse, computer fraud and abuse, and conspiracy to commit money laundering.” Read more

Texas Mini-TCPA Gets a Makeover: What Businesses Need to Know
The Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991 (TCPA) is a federal law designed to protect consumers from unwanted telemarketing and intrusive solicitation practices. Many states have also enacted similar state laws governing telephone solicitations, so called “mini-TCPAs.” One such state is Texas, which has had a mini-TCPA in place since 2009. Read more
Mindvalley Learning Platform to Pay $450,000 to Settle Video Privacy Act Suit Over Meta Pixel
Mindvalley Inc., a self-improvement and online learning platform, has agreed to pay $450,000 to settle a lawsuit alleging that it unlawfully shared users’ video-viewing information with Meta through the use of tracking technology on its website. On August 22, 2025, Judge Noël Wise of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California granted final approval of the settlement. Read more
SeatGeek Hit with Class Action Over Sharing User Data with TikTok and Meta
SeatGeek, the popular online ticketing platform, is facing a proposed class action in California federal court over allegations that it improperly shared website visitors’ personal information with TikTok and Meta through online tracking technologies. The complaint alleges that SeatGeek embedded TikTok and Meta tracking pixels on its website, enabling the companies to collect users’ personal data, including IP addresses, unique identifiers, browsing history, and device details, without user consent. According to the lawsuit, this practice violates California’s “trap and trace” law, a provision of the state’s Invasion of Privacy Act (CIPA). Read more

Notetaker App in Litigation Crosshairs
On August 15, 2025, notetaker app Otter.ai, Inc. was named a defendant in litigation alleging that its artificial intelligence-powered meeting assistant called Otter Notetaker, which “engages in real-time transcription of Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams meetings for Otter accountholders and other users…records, accesses and records the contents of private conversations between Otter accountholders who use the Otter Notetaker and meeting participants who do not subscribe to Otter’s services.” Read more
FDA Final Guidance on PCCP: Streamlining FDA Approval for AI-Enabled Medical Devices

As the federal agency tasked with regulating medical devices, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regularly releases guidance to inform medical device manufacturers how to best achieve FDA approval. Whistleblower Alleges DOGE Copied Social Security Data of 548 Million Americans to Cloud Server
We have previously raised concerns about the Department of Government Efficiency’s (DOGE) access to highly sensitive data, including data at the Social Security Administration, without appropriate security clearances, access controls, and security measures to protect it. On August 26, 2025, Charles Borges, the chief data officer at the Social Security Administration filed a whistleblower disclosure, submitted by the Government Accountability Project that confirmed our fears.
Since the U.S. Supreme Court has failed to acknowledge the risk of unfettered access to the Social Security Administration’s data, hopefully, members of Congress will urgently address this disclosure with deliberate speed to minimize the risk to all of us. Read more
