Robinson+Cole Honors 13 Lawyers and Business Professionals for Mentorship, Service, Inclusion, Wellbeing, and Innovation in 2026 Annual Awards

Robinson+Cole recognized 13 lawyers and business professionals for their mentorship; community service; diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEI+B) leadership; pro bono service; wellbeing initiatives; and technology innovation as part of the firm's annual awards program. The awards were presented by Managing Partner J. Michael Wirvin, who noted that the honors hold special significance because recipients are nominated by their colleagues and peers. Mentors of the Year The 2026 Robinson+Cole Mentor + Advisor Award recipients were Meryl Breeden, Katherine Skonberg, and Heather Seidel. Meryl, counsel in the firm’s Financial Lines team in New York, was recognized for her meaningful impact as a trusted mentor and advisor. Through both formal and informal mentoring relationships, she provides practical guidance, thoughtful perspective, and steadfast support that helps colleagues navigate complex matters, build confidence, and integrate into the firm. She also served as a panelist during associate orientation, sharing valuable insights on professional development and career growth. Katherine, an associate in the Business Transactions group in Washington, DC, was honored for her commitment to helping colleagues feel welcomed, supported, and confident as they navigate their careers at Robinson+Cole. As both a junior advisor and lateral advisor, she is known for fostering connection and helping colleagues build relationships, ask questions, and successfully integrate into the firm's culture. Heather, office administrator for the Boston, Providence, Washington, DC, and Bethesda offices, was recognized for her exceptional leadership and dedication to mentoring, supporting, and advocating for colleagues. Community Service Award The 2026 Robinson+Cole Community Service Award was presented to Lauren Sigg and Doreen Wiese. Lauren, a partner in the Immigration group in Hartford, was recognized for her sustained commitment to community service through leadership, mentorship, and volunteerism. Her service includes board leadership with Interval House, Connecticut's largest domestic violence agency, work with the Hartford Advisory Board of Pro Bono Partnership, and mentorship of emerging community leaders. Her efforts have strengthened organizations and expanded support for individuals and families throughout the community. Doreen, a paralegal in the Boston office, was honored for her longstanding dedication to service and volunteer leadership. Through her involvement with church organizations, educational programs, Orphan Grain Train, and Operation Christmas Child, she has devoted significant time to supporting charitable initiatives and helping individuals in need. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion + Belonging Award Immediate Past Managing Partner and Chair of the Firm’s Growth Committee Rhonda Tobin received the firm's 2026 DEI+B Award for her enduring commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace culture. As Robinson+Cole's first woman managing partner and a longtime member of the firm's Managing Committee, Rhonda helped cultivate a culture grounded in inclusion, collaboration, civility, and belonging. During her tenure, the firm achieved Mansfield Certification Plus status, strengthened its DEI+B efforts, and advanced policies and practices that support inclusion and professional growth. Her leadership extended beyond the firm through community service and civic engagement, including her role as chair of the Connecticut Judicial Review Council. Pro Bono Award The firm's Pro Bono Committee recognized Stephanie Oppenheim, Tyler Haas, and Isabella Grillo for their outstanding commitment to pro bono service. Stephanie, an associate in the Managed Care + ERISA Litigation group in Philadelphia, was honored for her leadership in organizing and leading the firm's record-clearing clinic in collaboration with Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity and for her ongoing volunteer work supporting low-income Philadelphians through estate planning, guardianship, family law, and gender-affirming name change matters. Tyler, an associate in the Business Litigation group in Hartford, was recognized for contributing nearly 350 hours of pro bono service in less than two years at the firm. His work has included assisting clients seeking sentence reductions in federal criminal matters and representing individuals facing significant legal and privacy concerns in civil matters. Isabella, an associate in the Managed Care + ERISA Litigation group in Boston, was honored for dedicating more than 250 hours of pro bono service to immigration and civil rights matters. Her efforts have included representing a child in a complex immigration case and assisting an incarcerated client in a federal civil rights matter involving religious rights. Wellbeing Award The firm’s Wellbeing Committee awarded Ray Carta and Valerie York. Ray, counsel in the firm’s Managed Care + ERISA Litigation counsel in Stamford, was recognized for his leadership of the Wellbeing Committee's Parents and Caregivers Subcommittee and for creating opportunities for colleagues to discuss work-life balance, parenting, and caregiving responsibilities. His initiatives have included a firmwide book club, educational programming on caregiver benefits, and peer networking opportunities for parents and caregivers across the firm. Valerie, a legal administrative assistant in Boston, was honored for her meaningful contributions to wellbeing programming through her service on the Wellbeing Committee and her leadership of the firm's monthly Mindful Monday meditation sessions. She has further strengthened the firm's wellbeing efforts through mental health first aid certification and extensive community volunteer service. Technology Champion Award This year marked the introduction of the firm's inaugural Technology Champion Award, recognizing individuals who advance technology adoption, innovation, and responsible use of emerging technologies across Robinson+Cole. The first recipients were Austin Provost and Jessica Altieri. Austin, a partner in the firm’s Real Estate + Development partner in Stamford, was recognized for his leadership in helping the firm implement and responsibly apply emerging technologies. As a member of the Technology Committee, he has championed practical technology solutions, shared best practices related to generative AI, and provided training that helps colleagues confidently incorporate technology into their daily work.   Jessica, Senior Communications Manager, was honored for her leadership in embracing emerging technology and helping colleagues adopt new ways of working. Robinson+Cole announced the addition of four lateral partners—J. Zachary Balasko, Eric Del Pozo, Brya M. Keilson and Victor R. Balasko and Keilson join the firm’s Bankruptcy + Reorganizations group in Washington, DC, and Wilmington, DE, respectively, while Del Pozo and Salgado join the Business Litigation group in Hartford, CT, and Washington, DC. These strategic hires enhance the firm’s ability to serve clients navigating complex, high‑stakes bankruptcy, restructuring, government enforcement, and related litigation matters nationwide and expand the firm’s depth and reach across key markets. “These additions meaningfully reinforce the depth and versatility of our business litigation and restructuring platform and reflect a deliberate approach to strengthening these areas in ways that directly benefit our clients,” said J. Zachary Balasko joins the firm as a Bankruptcy + Reorganizations partner based in Washington, DC. His practice focuses on complex Chapter 11 cases and bankruptcy‑related litigation across the country, representing debtors, secured creditors, creditors’ committees, and governmental entities. Balasko brings substantial experience from both private practice and prior service with the U.S. Department of Justice, where he handled major insolvency matters involving federal interests. Eric Del Pozo joins Robinson+Cole’s Hartford, CT office as a Business Litigation partner focusing on complex commercial litigation and appellate matters, representing businesses and public entities in regulated industries in high-stakes and sophisticated disputes. Del Pozo brings experience from senior roles in government and private practice, where he has represented clients at both the trial and appellate levels. Brya Keilson joins Robinson+Cole as a Bankruptcy + Reorganizations partner in the firm’s Wilmington, DE office, one of the nation’s leading venues for complex bankruptcy proceeding . She represents debtors, creditors, committees, trustees, and other parties in interest in sophisticated Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 cases. Keilson is widely experienced in contested bankruptcy matters and frequently advises clients on both strategic and practical considerations throughout the restructuring process. Victor Salgado joins Robinson+Cole as a Business Litigation partner in the firm’s Washington, DC office. He brings significant experience from both government and private practice, including eight years as a federal prosecutor with the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington, DC, where he handled high‑profile and complex cases focusing on public corruption as well as crimes involving financial institutions. Salgado will also work closely with the firm’s Bankruptcy + Reorganizations group on contested matters arising in complex restructurings and related litigation. In addition, Destiney Parker-Thompson joins the firm as a Bankruptcy + Reorganizations associate in the Wilmington office. Today, Robinson+Cole announced the formalization of its Professional + Collegiate Sports industry team, bringing together attorneys and professionals from the firm’s Immigration, Labor + Employment, Litigation, Education, Real Estate, Construction Law, Intellectual Property, Data Privacy, and Artificial Intelligence practices. The team draws on the firm’s extensive experience in these areas to provide coordinated counsel to sports leagues and teams, institutions, talent—athletes and coaches, investors, and sports-related businesses as they navigate issues involving name, image, and likeness (NIL), Title IX compliance, global mobility and sports tourism, media rights, private investment, emerging technologies, venue development, and the continued growth of women’s sports. "The sports industry represents an estimated $2.3 trillion global economy, and its continued growth is creating both opportunities and complexity across professional and collegiate athletics," said Robert C. Seiger, Chair of the new team. Kate Dion and Natale DiNatale Examine the Legal Questions Raised By Sorsby Injunction

Education industry team chair Kathleen Dion and Labor Relations group chair Natale DiNatale discussed the potential ramifications on the NCAA and college athletes in the article, “NCAA to appeal Brendan Sorsby injunction. What it means and how it can win,” published in USA Today, June 8, 2026. Kate pointed out that the injunction is a temporary measure. “This decision is only a preliminary ruling and is subject to appeal. Unless it is overturned, the injunction preserves Sorsby’s opportunity to compete this fall while the underlying case proceeds and allows him to continue preparing for a potential NFL career. For the NCAA, the ruling raises questions about the extent to which courts may review and potentially limit the enforcement of eligibility and competitive-integrity rules in individual cases.”  She continued, “It is also important to recognize that this is one state trial court decision, not a final decision on the merits, and thus its precedential value may be limited. While the court found that Sorsby demonstrated a probable right to the relief that he seeks on his breach of contract and other claims, which is a necessary element for obtaining a temporary injunction — the order does not appear to provide a detailed explanation of the court’s reasoning on that issue. As a result, many of the legal questions raised by the case are likely to remain the subject of further litigation and possible appellate review.” Discussing the foundation of the claim, Natale said, “The underlying dispute looks like a claim that the NCAA failed to accommodate a disability (e.g. an ADA claim based on a gambling addiction). But, it was brought as a breach of contract claim. A contract claim can be brought and maybe kept, in state court, which is likely a friendlier forum for this athlete.” Read the article.
